Many flotilla and charter companies now require this radio qualification.  The online course is the quickest way to get your VHF Radio Operator Certificate of Competence.  Just complete the online course then book a convenient time to do the final practical exam and written paper in person at a training centre.  Bay Sea School have two radio assessors so it should be fairly easy to arrange a time.

Please note: There's a separate £60 certificate fee payable to the RYA before you can attend the practical exam.

RYA Essential Navigation & Seamanship
includes plotter and dividers

Beginners introduction to navigation

This short online course is an ideal accompaniment to the beginner practical courses such as Keelboat Levels 1, 2 & 3, Powerboat Level 2, Competent Crew and Helmsman. It's a great starting point for anyone who goes to sea.

It takes roughly 6 hours to complete the various modules. But most people work through them at their own pace. Day Skipper theory students find it useful as an introduction to the more in-depth winter Day Skipper theory course.

Online Workshops

Group workshop

We can't meet in person at the moment but we can meet online via zoom.  So why not refresh your chartwork skills & be ready for when we can all go sailing again?  After our successful series of zoom workshops in January, they're back, starting on Wednesday 3rd March.

They'll run for a couple of hours from 7-9pm on Wednesday March 3rd and Wednesday March 17th for the moment.

A short tutorial on a topic will start each session. You can then practise it yourself with the opportunity to ask questions if necessary.  Worked examples will be graded in level of complexity from very rusty day skipper to yachtmaster!  You can also get together in small groups for some of the time.
