Sailing Practice

Some people are lucky enough to own their own yacht or have friends who do. This gives them the necessary time on the water to practise all the techniques they learn about on their RYA courses. For the majority of people new to sailing, this important stage is missing in their journey to confidently skippering a yacht on a flotilla holiday or bareboat charter.

The quick way to develop your practical sailing skills if you've completed a competent crew or day skipper practical course is through a sideways step onto the 2-day RYA keelboat courses.  Read more

New for 2023

Practical sailing sessions to gain more experience on the sea and practise the key skills introduced on the 2-day RYA keelboat courses.

What you'll need for keelboat sailing:

  • Suitable footwear for the yacht with a change for later.
  • Waterproof trousers & jacket for splashes while transferring out to the yacht.
  • Food & drink
  • Gloves for handling ropes, particularly when gybing
  • Warm layers
  • Sunscreen
  • Tie for glasses

We provide all the safety equipment. There's no loo aboard the keelboat. It's 'bucket & chuck it' if need be so drink lightly before your sailing and hydrate afterwards!
