This is a unique opportunity in the North West to go yacht sailing on the sea. Some people are lucky enough to own their own yacht or have friends who do. But for the majority who learn to sail through the RYA sailing schemes there is often a gap between what they learn on a course and having enough confidence to skipper a yacht themselves on a flotilla holiday or bareboat charter.
These Yacht Sailing Milebuilder days are intended for existing sailors who have already learnt the basics of how to sail. There will be an instructor aboard should you need any help. But the idea is to just practise sailing and gain valuable tidal sailing experience on Morecambe Bay.
Many students and sailing instructors will study the effects of mooring & sailing in a tide 'in theory only'. If you've ever sailed on Morecambe Bay you'll know that understanding the theory is no substitute for practical experience!
Yacht Sailing Milebuilders will meet the instructor at garage No. 11 on Back Calton St. Allow about 5 hours from start to finish. Full joining instructions will be emailed to you on booking.
Contact us if you'd like to arrange alternative dates for a Yacht Sailing Milebuilder.
What you'll need:
- Suitable footwear for the yacht with a change for later in case your feet get wet
- Waterproofs for splashes transferring out to the yacht (trousers and jacket). We can provide them if you don't have your own
- Gloves for handling ropes
- Warm clothes
We provide all the safety equipment. There's no loo on the small yacht so if you're driving a distance, call in at a pub on the way.
