Some people are lucky enough to own their own yacht or have friends who do. But for the majority of beginners there's a skills gap between their RYA course and gaining enough sailing experience to confidently skipper a yacht themselves on a flotilla holiday or bareboat charter.
The Yacht Sailing Milebuilder days are intended for these existing sailors who've already learnt the basics but need more time on the water practising their skills. There will be an instructor aboard should you need any guidance but the idea is to just practise whatever you want to get better at with your sailing. You'll gain valuable tidal sailing experience on Morecambe Bay too!
Yacht Sailing Milebuilders meet the instructor at garage No. 11 on Back Calton St. Full joining instructions will be emailed to you after booking. Allow about 5 hours from start to finish. These days are subject to demand so please contact us for a Yacht Sailing Milebuilder.
Take a look at the 2-day RYA Level 3 Keelboat course too. It could be just what you're looking for if you want more sailing experience on the sea with some personalised tuition as well.
What you'll need for keelboat sailing:
- Suitable footwear for the yacht with a change for later in case your feet get wet
- Waterproof trousers & jacket for splashes while transferring out to the yacht. We can provide them if you don't have your own
- Gloves for handling ropes, particularly when gybing
- Warm layers
- Tie for glasses
We provide all the safety equipment. There's a bucket but no loo aboard the small yacht so if you're driving a distance for your milebuilder, call in at a pub on the way! Toilets are available ashore during the 2-day keelboat courses.
These milebuilder days are limited in number. But there's another way to develop your sailing skills. A sideways step to the 2-day RYA keelboat courses could be just what you're looking for. Read more
