Some people are lucky enough to own their own yacht or have friends who do. This gives them time on the water to practise all the skills they learn on their RYA courses. But for the majority of people new to sailing there's a stage missing between their RYA course and having enough sailing experience to confidently skipper a yacht themselves on a flotilla holiday or bareboat charter.
People often look for Yacht Sailing Milebuilders. These provide more experience aboard a yacht but don't always provide enough practise at the key practical sailing skills. These skills are much easier to practise on a smaller boat.
The quick way to develop your practical sailing skills is with a sideways step to the 2-day RYA keelboat courses. They could be just what you're looking for. Read more

What you'll need for keelboat sailing:
- Suitable footwear for the yacht with a change for later in case your feet get wet
- Waterproof trousers & jacket for splashes while transferring out to the yacht. We can provide them in adult sizes from small to extra large if you don't have your own
- Gloves for handling ropes, particularly when gybing
- Warm layers
- Tie for glasses
We provide all the safety equipment. There's no loo aboard the small yacht. It's bucket & chuck it! Facilities are available ashore during the 2-day keelboat courses.
